The superstition still prevails as a brooding cancer in third world nation and this horrendous incident is a bone-chilling example of how little children are left to fend for themselves on streets. The incident is from Nigeria, where a family deserted it’s a year old son, who starved on the streets of the village, accusing him to be a witch. It is harrowing and traumatic to see such indifference shown towards their own child just because of prevalent superstitions in the country.
The angel who rescued him
The child was abandoned and for eight long months he had to survive living of the chunks people threw at him. The innocent child, unaware of the fact why he was left to die, wandering on the streets naked bravely clutched on to life and didn’t surrender to death. After a long and sore struggle of eight months, the child was finally rescued from the streets by a Danish social activist, Anja Ringgren Loven, living in Africa. She spotted the poor thing and sat down along him to feed him and giving him water. She then engirdled him in a blanket and took him to a hospital. Anja named the child hope and is happy to have rescued the innocent life.
Anja is the founder of African children’s aid education and development foundation which helps children who are abandoned or even killed by their own families in Africa.
Hope’s fight against death
After examination at the hospital, hope was found to be suffering from malnutrition and extremely emaciated with worms. The little boy fought hard to survive and was rigorously diagnosed to stabilize his health. Hope was given medication and treatment to douse the worms in his stomach and regular blood transfusions to improve his Red Blood Cell (RBC) count as stated by Ms Loven. She states that the child’s health is now stable and he is in remission, he responds to medicines and is taking food for himself now. She said the “strong little boy” now plays with her own son.he noble efforts of Ms Loven has saved an innocent life which otherwise was left to rot on streets. The lady now plans to take care of the child under her own African children’s aid education and development foundation, focused at serving and rescuing such deserted souls.
The next step
After the rescue, Ms Loven asked the world to come forward to help these children labelled as witched and abandoned by their families. Two days after the appeal for help with hope’s medical expenses, she received $ 1 million in aid from across the world. She said that this would be a huge relief and with all that money they can ensure the best treatment for hope following which they plan for setting up a doctor clinic to save many more children from the trauma. She confessed on Facebook that thousands of children, just like hope, are labelled as witches and her team has seen them torturing children, deserting them and in some cases even killing the children. She received a mammoth response from all around the world with people pouring in their help in form of funds. Her foundation is dedicated to help all these children who have been deprived of their right to live. Her foundation is working on rescuing these children and provide them with required medical care and proper schooling.
